UC Systemwide IT Assessment

Systemwide IT Assessment – 2022

In March 2022, the Vice President for Information Technology launched a systemwide assessment of the current technology landscape across the UC system. This initiative seeks to identify strategic priorities for collaboration in support of the UC mission; develop recommendations for technology, digital governance, and operating model; and create a future roadmap that aligns and supports UC priorities. The work will serve as a framework for the transformation of IT across the university for the next three to five years.

Why Is an Assessment Needed?

As demand increases for technology and data, as well as enhanced security and privacy, it is important for the university to set a vision for and to organize the information technology function to optimally support the system’s priorities. To that end, the purpose of the assessment is to provide recommendations for transforming the UCOP and UC wide IT functions to become even more effective partners to the UC community.

Process

The assessment work started March 1, 2022, and is expected to run through the end of July 2022.

A steering committee composed of representatives from key functional areas that intersect with technology has been identified to guide the assessment.

The assessment was kicked off with a large number of interviews with stakeholders and stakeholder groups from the UC campuses, academic medical centers, national labs, and UCOP. Identified stakeholders represent technology, finance, faculty, student affairs, research, health, security, privacy, legal, library, procurement, and many additional areas.

In addition, a survey was distributed via CIOs and the UC IT Blog for any member of the UC technology community to complete and contribute perspectives and ideas.
