Secure Messaging and File Transfer

Availability: UCOP

Service Description
UCOP provides a secure service, GoAnywhere Secure Messaging and File Transfer, to allow personnel to easily distribute messages or files with sensitive information, or to distribute large files. Electronic files are sent via a web browser, eliminating the risks and inconvenience associated with attaching them to email messages.

Files may be sent securely to individuals in any organization, provided they have access to email and the Internet. UCOP personnel should use GoAnywhere if they have a business need to

  • send large files that may get blocked due to size quotas on either the senders' or the recipients' email systems, or
  • transmit files that contain sensitive or protected information, such as Social Security numbers or protected health information.

With GoAnywhere, the messages and files are encrypted, uploaded, and stored on a secure web server. The recipient is then sent an email message with secure links to the material. The service encrypts the material both in transit and on the server, thus ensuring security. Messages and files sent using GoAnywhere are kept for seven days only—the service is not to be used for file storage.
