Information Technology Services
ITS offers a Virtual Private Network (VPN) service, which enables authorized wireless and remote users with UC owned computers to securely access internal UCOP electronic resources without being physically located in a UCOP building. ITS configures the computer and installs software to support the service.
How to Order
Use the IT Service Hub to request a VPN connection. ITS will verify that prerequisites for receiving VPN service have been met (see eligibility) and then will schedule a time to meet with the user, install the VPN software, and offer training.
How to Request Support
Support is available M – F, 6:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Request support through the IT Service Hub or by contacting the IT Service Desk.
For security reasons, the VPN service is provided only to employees who have a genuine business need to remotely access secure UCOP resources. This may include systems managers or frequent business travelers who need to access shared files. The VPN service is not provided simply for accessing e-mail from home. Several prerequisites must be met before VPN service can be provided:
- Management Approval. Authorization by a manager or supervisor is required for an individual to be set up with the VPN service.
- Compliance with Security Policy. The user's computer must be configured to comply with UCOP's Security Requirements for All UCOP Networked Devices .
- UC Owned Computer or Laptop. VPN access is not provided for personal equipment.
24/7, except during planned outages
None. Departments pay a monthly technology infrastructure fee (TIF) per individual to cover a standard computing bundle, office phone, voicemail, and email access, including access to email lists.
Information about using VPN may be found in the IT Service Hub. Key search words include VPN.
