PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Quiana is working to reduce energy wasted from fume hoods in campus lab buildings. Since fume hoods interact with the HVAC system (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning), they have a high impact potential on overall building consumption. In order to avoid wasted energy, Quiana will work with the campus Utilities Department and Green Labs Committee to build and implement fume hood sash alarms that will alert lab members when a sash has been left open. After conducting a small pilot project in about 10 labs, Quiana will be able to analyze the savings per hood and examine the scalability of sash alarms at UCSD.
