UC 2030 equity goals community of practice

With its 2030 vision, UC set ambitious goals to increase timely graduation while eliminating disparities for low-income and first-generation students and for students from groups long underrepresented in higher education — specifically Black, Latinx and Native American students.

The UC 2030 equity goals community of practice brings together institutional researchers, administrators, faculty, and student-facing staff from UC campuses to share information about innovations and best practices in areas that promote the University’s UC 2030 equity goals.

Composed of UC employees, the community also promotes intersegmental collaboration through knowledge sharing with colleagues at the CSU system and the California Community Colleges.

Failure to Adapt: Academic Risk in a Shifting Student Population
This presentation examines how the changing composition of Berkeley's undergraduate
population has interacted with static course structures to produce widening gaps in academic
outcomes. In gateway STEM courses especially, the lack of adaptation has driven steep increases
in DFW and Academic Notice rates among certain student groups.

Liberatory Design for Change in Higher Education
This presentation introduces liberatory design as a framework for institutional change in higher
education. Moving beyond top-down processes toward collaborative, equity-centered
approaches can shift power dynamics, support inclusion, and generate more transformative
outcomes. A case study describes work with LGBTQIA+ students and the SOGI coalition—to
illustrate how liberatory design principles can be applied in day-to-day practice.
