Join colleagues from across the University of California for the 2026 UC Ethics and Compliance Institute, an interactive, virtual training program designed for new and seasoned compliance professionals. Over two days, you’ll explore the foundational and evolving landscape of compliance in higher education and health, with opportunities to learn from UC experts, share experiences, and strengthen our systemwide compliance community.

The Institute offers both campus and health-focused content, hands-on sessions, and practical tools you can immediately apply in your local environment.

Program Overview

Day 1 provides a comprehensive introduction to UC’s compliance environment and core framework ideal for those newer to a compliance role, new to compliance at UC, or looking for a structured refresher.

  • UC Governance, Audit, and Investigations – How UC’s structures work together to support ethical conduct and accountability
  • Risk Assessment, Resources, and Strategy – Identifying, evaluating, and prioritizing compliance risks in campus and health settings
  • Effective Training and Communication – How to plan and deliver clear, engaging compliance messages by tailoring content, tone, and format for diverse UC audiences.

Day 2 focuses on applying compliance concepts in real-world scenarios, with an emphasis on AI, investigations, and emerging risk areas.

  • Regulators & External Investigations – Navigating external inquiries and investigations in the UC context
  • Higher Education Compliance Trends – What’s changing in higher education and health compliance, and what it means for UC
  • AI: Resource & Risk – Leveraging AI tools responsibly in the compliance function while managing associated risks and obligations
  • UC Compliance Knowledge Challenge – Reinforce Institute learning by applying core compliance concepts to realistic UC scenarios and reflecting on best practices for sustaining an effective compliance program.
