Our Mission
The University of California Black Alumni Association (UC BAA) builds critical relationships with the University of California that fosters inclusive partnerships, provides accessible opportunities, and builds equitable programs that acknowledges, activates and uplifts future and current Black and African American alumni.
Our Why
The University of California’s alumni and student population is not yet representative of California’s Black and African American demographics. Therefore, the Black student experience can be fraught with negative campus climate factors that ultimately impact Black alumni engagement. As a result, Black alumni have difficulty supporting institutional goals due to lack of equitable representation and intentional engagement. This is further exacerbated with a lack of proactive outreach, transparent institutional communication, and culturally relevant resources.
Our Positionality
All decisions, efforts and programming of our volunteer-led alumni organization center anti-racism and equity to improve the Black alumni and student experience throughout the UC system.
