Valerie C. Shelton

Senior Principal Counsel

Valerie Shelton is an employment law attorney.  She joined the Office of the General Counsel in 2007 and is responsible for overseeing and monitoring employment related litigation for the University of California system.  Ms. Shelton works closely with outside counsel in developing case strategy consistent with University policy and protocols and she provides functional advice to senior managers and campus stakeholders concerning risk assessment, liability, and damages.  Ms. Shelton also independently handles a full range of legal matters and projects, including the most complex and those of substantial importance and impact to the University.  

Before joining OGC, Ms. Shelton was a partner with Filice Brown Eassa & McLeod LLP, where her practice focused on significant employment litigation and other high profile, high exposure complex civil matters in both state and federal courts.  She is a graduate of the UC College of the Law, San Francisco and obtained her undergraduate degree from Pomona College in Claremont, CA.
