Experience

Maria Shanle joined the Oakland Office of the General Counsel since 2000. Prior to joining the office, Ms. Shanle served as Deputy City Attorney in the City of Alameda's Attorney's Office and was an associate at Hanson Bridgett, Marcus Vlahos & Rudy.

Ms. Shanle's primary areas of practice include issues relating to FERPA, the California Information Practices Act and related privacy issues, the University's electronic communications policy, the California Public Records Act, open meeting laws, delegations of authority, Board of Regents policies and procedures, and Governance.   She also manages a team of attorneys in the areas of Education Affairs and Governance.
