Experience

Josh Meltzer serves as Principal Counsel for Education Affairs, based in Oakland, having joined the office in July 2020.  Mr. Meltzer advises the Academic Senate on matters relating to faculty discipline and faculty grievances, and advises campuses and the Office of the President on a variety of issues related to Education Affairs, including free speech, discrimination, and education abroad.  Mr. Meltzer previously practiced law at Munger, Tolles & Olson in San Francisco, where he handled complex civil litigation, government investigations, and was co-chair of the firm’s pro bono immigration practice.  Mr. Meltzer clerked for Judge Raymond J. Lohier, Jr. of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, and earlier in his career, he worked for the 2008 presidential campaign of Barack Obama and the subsequent presidential transition team.
