Experience
Gigi Capuyan joined UC Legal (Oakland office) in May 2024 and provides guidance and advice on procurement matters at the systemwide and campus levels, including complex contracts and related policies. Prior to joining UC Legal, Gigi was a Senior Attorney with Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD), serving as the lead procurement counsel, supporting new business development activities, and managing SMUD’s intellectual property portfolio. Prior to SMUD, she served as a Research Policy Manager with UCOP’s Research Policy Analysis and Coordination team, specializing in UC intellectual property policies and related matters; and served as a Business Contracts Officer at UCSF. Prior to public service, Gigi worked in the Silicon Valley as a patent associate for a boutique intellectual property law firm.
