Experience

Fatima Evans joined the Office of General Counsel in June 2013 and serves as Principal Counsel and Practice Area Lead for the Trusts & Estates (T&E) team. Ms. Evans’ practice focuses on gifts made to the University from the trusts and estates of deceased donors and related litigation.

Ms. Evans provides advice and guidance on T&E matters and has developed consistent T&E practices, processes, and procedures to achieve greater efficiencies, mitigate against the risk of loss, and increase accelerated distributions and affirmative recoveries to the University. In her role, she also supervises and guides her team in the protection of the University’s beneficial interest in nearly 1,000 active trust and estate matters. Through modest growth under Ms. Evans’ leadership, the T&E team has achieved outstanding outcomes.

Ms. Evans currently serves as a member of the NACUA Virtual Programming Committee as well as a member of the Trust & Estate Administration subcommittee of the Trusts and Estate Section of the California Lawyers Association, which reviews and provides recommendations on proposed California trust and estate legislation.

Prior to joining the University, Ms. Evans was a partner at the law firms of Wendel, Rosen, Black & Dean LLP and Fitzgerald, Abbott & Beardsley LLP. Ms. Evans has presented on a variety of trust and estate topics and in 2008, authored a chapter on Preliminary Distributions for CEB, California Decedent Estate Practice.
