Student wellness
In 2006 Senator Tom Torlakson wrote UC encouraging the University to consider adopting a formalized wellness program for students. As a result, the Be Well UC workgroup was established. The workgroup began its work by focusing on targeted interventions for vulnerable student groups and creating healthier learning environments for students (consistent with Tier 2 and Tier 3 recommendations from the 2006 Student Mental Health Report).
In 2006-07 UC Living Well began as a pilot program targeted broadly at University of California employee wellness efforts. In 2007 the program was expanded to all 10 campuses and in 2008 the Be Well UC group joined the UC Living Well initiative, becoming the UC Living Well for Students Workgroup, with the goal of aligning all wellness programs, regardless of their target audience, under the umbrella of UC Living Well.
