Edible Campus Project
Description
With the goal of combating the presence of food insecurity, this project seeks to reimagine underutilized spaces on campus to grow food that will be donated to the Associated Students Food Bank. She and GFI fellow Nancy Yang will develop the long-term plan for the Edible Campus Project, including a student-run farm and/or garden space(s), by: 1) researching similar campus farm programs, including their health and safety protocols, training methods, and educational and outreach programs; 2) assessing feasibility, evaluating pros and cons of the various available spaces; 3) doing translational research on making student ideas attainable goals, and 4) facilitating UC cross-system work. They will work alongside the intern adviser(s), campus planning and Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) to help secure the space and permissions necessary for campus food production. Their research will be compiled into a comprehensive report that can serve as the guiding document for the project moving forward.
