Project

The Large Potential of Local Croplands to Meet Food Demand in the United States

Description

This project is designed to investigate the maximum theoretical potential for population centers in the U.S. to feed populations with local food.

Goals

The major goal is to discover the maximum potential for local food systems in the U.S. and which factors most greatly influence local food potentials.

Future Plans

A research article describing our local food GFI project has been accepted in the peer review journal Frontiers in Ecology and the Environment. Next steps may include increasing the spatial extent of our project or adding model complexities (e.g., transportation network distances, locations of processing plants, etc.).
