The University of California has more than 26,000 faculty members and has one of the most prominent faculties in higher education, including 71 Nobel Laureates, 693 members of the National Academy of Sciences, 65 recipients of the National Medal of Science, 270 members in the National Academy of Engineering, more than 270 members of the Institutes of Medicine and 45 Pulitzer Prize winners.

UC's diverse faculty are often leaders and experts in their fields, and have often been called upon to lead national organizations, task forces and committees.
