Michael Rodriguez

GFI Fellow - Class of 2021

Graduate student, environmental sciences
UC Riverside

DESCRIPTION

2021-22 GFI student ambassador fellow

There is potential for converting food waste into valuable products that promote sustainable agriculture-food systems and a circular economy but more research on trace gas emissions is needed. Michael will measure greenhouse gas and ammonia emissions from anaerobic fermentation of food waste. Sustainable use of the byproducts will be evaluated by measuring emissions from fermented waste used as insect diets and as organic fertilizers in soils. As GFI ambassador, Michael will collaborate with UC Riverside’s R’garden and CAFÉ (California Agriculture and Food Enterprise) and help manage GFI projects website and social media.
