2021-22 GFI student fellow

Jesús will be the lead organizer for the second-annual Food Systems Conference, "Food Relatives: Decolonizing and Indigenizing the Global Food System," organized by the Food Institute Graduate Council (FIGC) at Berkeley and sponsored by the Berkeley Food Institute. The two-day conference's, held April 1-2, main goal will be to connect scholars, community members, artists, and policy makers through varying critiques of colonization, heteropatriarchy, and capitalism and their impact on existing food relations. The Food Relatives conference will also give specific focus on Indigenous and Black knowledge, people, and lands to amplify existing decolonizing and indigenizing goals that can improve food systems in the United States (and beyond).
