DESCRIPTION

2021-22 GFI student fellow

Emily will research how food impacts gut microbiota, mental health, and gastroenterological disorders. She will create blog posts and media on the Naked Brain, LLC website to educate the public and make my lab’s research accessible to the public in digestible content, such as culturally relevant recipes, tips about superfoods, and nutrition education. These findings enable individuals to take greater control over one’s health and diet. In the lab, she is also interested in studying how traditional diets (from Aruvedyic to Chinese medicine) and indigenous knowledge affect one’s mental health and diet, when given the opportunity to pursue a project. Studies such as these are crucial in increasing the diversity in research topics and subjects. This project will facilitate more dialogue on science, nutrition, and food studies. By publishing this in a readable format, it is made more accessible to the public and these findings can be applied to impactful change in industry.
