People Management Series and Certificate 2018 for UCOP employees

The updated 2018 program for UCOP employees who manage others or aspire to manage people.

The UC Systemwide People Management Series and Certificate is a program for all People Managers (or those who aspire to) consisting of Core and Elective Courses, which includes local and systemwide programs and eCourses, as well as in-person learning experiences, and covers the following topics: Performance Management, Managing Implicit Bias, Managing People, Administration & Operations, Change Management, and Communications. It is designed to increase our people management capabilities at UCOP as well as across the entire UC system.

The benefits of the program include:

  • Builds baseline management skills for all people managers
  • Increases opportunity for promotion and potential for future leadership positions
  • Offers easily accessible online courses that are learner-centric and self-paced
  • Builds on coursework already completed
  • Provides eligibility to attend the People Management Conference

All e-courses are available from the UCOP UC Learning Center and instructor-led classes can be registered for in UC Learning Center. The specific courses for UCOP currently include system-wide e-courses and local in-person classes. In order to obtain a People Management Certificate, you will need to complete all 16 Core Courses and 4 Elective Courses (one from each competency).

*Recognize any of these courses? You may if you've participated in the Performance Management Series which features these same eight courses. Participants who have completed any or all of these courses as part of the Performance Management Series can count them towards the completion of the People Management Series and Certificate.

How do I participate?

Simply log in to the UC Learning Center and search the catalog for these Management Core courses as well as the UCOP eligible elective courses. You can also contact the Learning and Development Team for questions and assistance.

What If I completed the 2016/2017 People Management certificate?

Those who completed the 2016/2017 version of the People Management Certificate are encouraged to update to the 2018 version by completing the Managing Implicit Bias series. Completion of the 2016/2017 certificate (and all individual course completed to obtain the original certificate) will still stay on your transcript. Moving forward, completion of the 2018 version will be required for programs such as the UC People Management Conference.

What about the conference?

Those who complete the UC Systemwide People Management Series and Certificate are eligible to attend the UC People Management Conference and join graduates of the Management Development Program (MDP) and the UC-CORO Systemwide Leadership Collaborative. The goal of this annual conference is to provide attendees with the opportunity to continue their learning and build connections across leadership levels and the UC system.
