Amazon@UC

Did you know Amazon now has pickup points at three UC campuses? UC San Diego is the most recent campus to add an Amazon location, joining UC Berkeley who implemented one a year ago and UC Davis, who opened theirs this past summer. Procurement staff at each of these locations was instrumental in forming the partnership with Amazon.

The Amazon pickup locations are fully staffed and secure places where the local community can pick up Amazon orders. It also offers free and easy returns, and free same-day pickup on millions of items for Amazon Prime and Prime Student members. The pickup location also has the added benefit of longer package hold duration (up to 15 days) and adjusted store hours to accommodate student schedules.

Amazon@ASUCStudentUnion- The 3,500 square foot space at Berkeley was the first Amazon pickup location on a university campus to feature an interactive Amazon device experience where students can watch movies, play games, read books, listen to music, and more on Kindle e-readers, Fire tablets, and Fire TV devices.

Amazon@UCDavis- Amazon’s collaboration with UC Davis predates the brick-and-mortar location. It began with ucdavis.amazon.com, a shared online storefront that donates a portion of profits to UC Davis and has generated over $700,000 to support student services since the program began, including over $100,000 toward textbook scholarships for UC Davis students.

Amazon@UCSanDiego- The UC San Diego Amazon site is the first college-based pickup location in San Diego, and only the second in Southern California. As part of the integrated strategy, San Diego is pursuing a business solution with Amazon to address work-related purchases. This includes a possible punchout within SciQuest, and expedited shipping, much like the Prime program. IPPS is looking forward to sharing its Amazon strategies with other UC campuses as the partnership evolves.
