The UC Research Security Office (UCRSO) is being transitioned from the Office of the National Laboratories to the Office of Ethics, Compliance and Audit Services in the UC Office of the President. The UCRSO, and specifically the Facility Security Officer (FSO), will ensure that the Department of Defense (DoD) Facility Clearance granted to The Regents of the University of California is in compliance with the National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual (NISPOM, DoD 5220.22-M) and the requirements of various federal agencies. UC maintains a DoD Facility Clearance as a result of classified research performed at the Scripps Institute of Oceanography, part of the UC San Diego campus.
The FSO assists individuals with obtaining or maintaining their DoD clearances and coordinates visit requests. Security clearance briefings, foreign travel briefings, and various security awareness briefings are also provided through the UCRSO as required.
