Secure Telnet (TN3270) to MVS
Beginning July 1, 2004, ITS will begin support for encrypted TN3270 connectivity to the UCOP MVS mainframe applications. For a period, both unsecure and secure connections will be accepted. After August 1, 2004, only SSL-encrypted connectivity will be allowed for connections to uccmvsb.ucop.edu, port 992.
There are a number of options for connecting to UCOP's mainframe with a secure client. Below are descriptions and links to facilities that UCOP recommends for terminal emulation. Users are welcome, however, to use any terminal emulation software that supports SSL encryption.
Windows Systems (Windows 98/Me/NT/2000/XP)
|Install Stunnel||Stunnel is a great way to add SSL capability to your existing environment. With Stunnel, you can continue to use your current TN3270 client, even if it does not have native SSL support. Follow these directions to download and install Stunnel for use with your current software.|
Macintosh Systems (Mac OS X 10.2 and later)
Follow these directions to download and install Brown tn3270 X 3.1.4 for Mac OS X.
NOTE: Version 3.1.4 is the latest release (available here) and fixes minor SSL-related problems discovered since 3.1.1 was released.
