Email Phishing Attempt

An e-mail phishing attempt was directed at UCOP today. The subject line reads “Attention: University E-mail User,”.

ITS has taken measures to secure the compromised account. However, many of you already received the email.

Do not click on any links in the email! Delete the message and empty your trash immediately.

Phishing is a fraudulent attempt to electronically acquire sensitive information such as usernames, passwords, and IDs by masquerading as a trustworthy individual or entity. Some phishing attempts are very sophisticated, and the email may seem to come from someone you know.

Always be suspicious of any email asking for personal or user account information. The IT Service Desk will never ask you for such information via email.
