Retirement Operations

The Retirement Operations unit is the largest unit within the Retirement Administration Service Center (RASC.) The unit administers annual benefit payments in excess of $1.7 billion to nearly 54,000 retirees, their dependents and surviving family members.

In addition to processing and auditing retirement elections from members, the unit reviews and determines eligibility for University of California Retirement Plan (UCRP) disability applications; researches and processes approximately 2,000 member death cases annually and oversees the Qualified Domestic Relations Order (QDRO) process.

The unit is also responsible for the auditing of UCRP member accounts; the maintenance of over $21 million in non-contributory accounts; and providing members with over 10,000 Verification of Pension documents on a yearly basis.

Retirement Operations also rules on exceptional requests at the administrative level and provides guidance to Benefits Offices systemwide regarding UCRP plan rules and administrative procedures.
