Description: This continuous and popular training session provides campus architects, project managers (both major and minor capital projects), contract administrators and other design and construction staff the legal issues faced in any capital project. Our legal counsel from the Office of General Counsel (Steve Morrell, David Robinson, Dave Bergquist and Holly Ackley) will be presenting newer legislation and hot legal issues, as well as contract dos and don'ts. Description: This two-day training program will cover a variety of topics in the leasing and acquisition/disposition areas. It will include: Updates on the seismic safety policy for leased and purchased buildings, current lease issues (Stark anti-kickback requirements for clinical leases and capital lease policy updates), the building official's role, changes in the relocation policy and delegations of authority, acquisition/disposition due diligence, 3rd party development and debt management.

Description:This workshop focuses on the process of incorporating ergonomic quality into the design of facilities. A range of different facility types will be used as examples in the workshop, including hospitals, a library, office spaces, etc. The objectives are to provide those who may work on new designs or renovations of facilities with tools and techniques for incorporating ergonomic considerations into the planning process to minimize the risk of musculoskeletal injury and increase comfort and productivity.

Description:This is a ½ day session derived from last year’s LEED™ for Project Managers. This presentation guides the attendee through the development process, with the preferred future of a green or certified LEED™ building. A procurement checklist is provided to help track the consideration and inclusion of sustainable principles on a case project. Topics include: commitment, budgeting, programming, consultant selection, design, construction and operations. For each topic, additional information is provided on an annotated checklist. The audience is heavily involved in creating the action items for the case project. Through participation, the audience gains skill in determining the forces at work in a green project, and how to reach the environmental goals cost effectively.

Description:UCOP’s Design and Construction Policy continues to update the contract documents for law and policy changes. Recently, after the Regents studied UC’s construction business practices and applicable state laws were amended or added, some significant changes were made to our contracts. It is important for us to begin implementation as seamlessly as possible. This half day workshop, lead by our own Office of General Counsel (who wrote the clauses), will provide you with the exact language, explain how it will change your business practices and clarify any questions you might have.

Description: This half-day seminar will present information on the Laboratories for the 21st Century (Labs21) Environmental Performance Criteria (EPC), a point-based rating system to assess the environmental performance of laboratories. The EPC builds on the LEED(TM) rating system by adding credits and prerequisites pertaining to laboratories.

This seminar will provide information on monitoring based commissioning (MBCx) by clearly identifying what MBCx is, why it is important for campuses to implement as a step towards optimizing buildings, and how to measure and monitor building energy usage to achieve savings.
