Melina Duarte

Program Leader, COSMOS

Melina Duarte is the Statewide Manager for The California State Summer School for Mathematics and Science (COSMOS) at the University of California Office of the President. In this role, Duarte oversees a comprehensive science and math enrichment program for California's talented high school students. COSMOS operates on the campuses of UC Davis, UC Irvine, UC San Diego, and UC Santa Cruz.

Prior to joining the COSMOS Statewide office at UCOP, Duarte served as the founding coordinator of the UC Irvine COSMOS program. She was an integral part of the team that designed, launched, and implemented the first comprehensive four-week residential program of its kind.

Duarte is very active in various science, technology, math and engineering (STEM) activities. She is past Chairwoman of the National Advisory Council for Educational Excellence for The Society of Mexican American Engineers & Scientist (MAES). She has also helped organize and has presented at various national and international STEM- related conferences. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences from UC Irvine.
