Diversity and Engagement
Vice Provost and Chief Outreach Officer
Yvette Gullatt is responsible for leading the department of Diversity and Engagement, a department crucial to the University of California’s efforts to ensure access to postsecondary education for more low-income, educationally disadvantaged California students from diverse backgrounds. Diversity and Engagement provides UC campuses with research on best practices, support for credential candidate recruitment and preparation, and support for educator leadership initiatives, and it administers a variety of statewide academic programs for college preparation.
Yvette has long and deep roots at the University of California. She has worked for nearly 20 years on policy, strategic partnerships, and program design and delivery that improve student learning and achievement, first at Berkeley and then at UC Office of the President. She also consults with organizations in California and throughout the nation on pre-college preparation issues and strategies and represents the University on a number of state and national boards and committees. Gullatt holds B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in English from UC Berkeley.
