Biography

In 1984, Chuck Morgan accepted the position of Groundskeeper with the University of California, San Diego. 24 years later, Chuck oversees more than 250 landscape, custodial, and waste management personnel in a vastly different culture. As an Assistant Director in UCSD's Facilities Management department, Chuck leads his team through the challenges of providing excellent service in the face of limited State resources, the increased call for sustainability, and the ever-growing demand for services from newly-built campus facilities. Chuck's crew is responsible for cleaning over 7.2 million square feet of interiors, and maintains more than 1,200 acres of landscaping. Initiating the Green Campus cleaning program he regularly spearheads campus initiatives to improve the working environment, safety, and quality of life for the faculty, students and staff of UCSD.
Chuck actively volunteers in community and professional organizations, such as the San Diego Professional Tree Care Association, acting as Treasurer for three years. He is one of the founding members of the UCSD Faculty and Staff Christian Fellowship, most recently held the position of Vice-Chair. As a member of the Campus Emergency Response Team (CERT), he is prepared to coordinate with local emergency services to maintain order and help victims of emergencies such as fire and earthquakes. He initiated and continues to contribute to "Celebrate the Night," an all-staff event to honor the UCSD employees who work at night, and has numerous years of involvement in the annual UCSD All-Staff Picnic.
"I look forward to serving as the Chair-Elect of the UCSD Staff Association Executive Board, and making the most of my time working with other CUCSA delegates, forging effective and lasting relationships. There's a lot to be done on behalf of the many staff members of the University of California and now, more than ever, we need to do it together."
