Graduate Student, Biological Systems Engineering
Lauren will work on improving algae production methods for renewable biofuel through microbial probiotics and material and energy flow modeling. Outdoor algae growth is at risk of infection from airborne grazers that can decimate an algae pond in days, leading to an estimated 30% loss annually. Lauren's research investigates the ability of probiotics to protect algae and the associated costs of the improved growth system.
