Statewide analysis

The number of UC-approved secondary Home Economics Careers and Technology courses increased statewide from 268 to 293, an increase of 8.5 percent compared to last year. Of the 1334 public comprehensive and alternative high schools in California, 201 or 15 percent have one or more UC-approved Home Economics Careers and Technology course. Presently, there are 9587 Home Economics Careers and Technology courses offered statewide of which three percent meet the “a-g” subject requirements.

A-G subject requirements

In analyzing the “a-g” subject requirements, Home Economics Careers and Technology courses are approved in the laboratory science (“d”), visual and performing arts (“f”) and college-preparatory elective (“g”) subject areas. There was a substantial increase (17.5 percent) from the previous year in courses approved in the “f” subject area.
