Statewide analysis

The number of UC-approved secondary Health Science and Medical Technology courses increased statewide from 1063 to 1165, an increase of 8.7 percent compared to last year. Of the 1334 public comprehensive and alternative high schools in California, 683 or 51.1 percent have one or more UC-approved Health Science and Medical Technology course. Presently, there are 4414 Health Science and Medical Technology courses offered statewide of which 26.3 percent meet the “a-g” subject requirements.

A-G subject requirements

In analyzing the “a-g” subject requirements, Health Science and Medical Technology courses are approved in all areas except the language other than English (“e”) and visual and performing arts (“f”) subject areas. There were substantial increases from the previous year in courses approved in the “d” subject area (8.2 percent) and “g” subject area (9.5 percent).
