The Environment, Health & Safety team in the Office of Risk Services provides strategic guidance, leadership, and systemwide coordination of resources to advance the goals of the university EH&S programs. Campus, medical center, and national laboratory EH&S offices support the mission of the university by providing comprehensive environmental protection, occupational health, and industrial safety expertise to the entire university community.
In order to best support safety at all locations, each department has at least one Department Safety Officer (DSO) who has been appointed by their department head and acts as the liaison between employees in their department and the UCOP EH&S Department. Additionally, Office of the President has established a Security and Safety Committee which is responsible for promoting a safe and secure workplace, define organizational security and safety needs, and provide the executive management with program recommendations and enhancements. The Security and Safety Committee meets quarterly consists of both management and employee representatives.
EH&S enables the research and educational processes through training and consultation, facilitating loss prevention programs, and providing a framework for workplace hazard analysis and control.
UCOP EH&S support department managers and their employees in providing a safe and healthy work environment in all OP locations, and provides systemwide guidance.
